First, create a folder pair. A SyncToy folder pair
identifies the two folders you want to synchronize and also stores SyncToy
options.
If you are starting SyncToy for the first time, select Create New
Folder Pair.
Either type a folder name into the text box or select Browse and
navigate to find the left or source folder for the folder pair.
Selecting a folder containing a large number of files may cause Synctoy to take
a long time to run.
Mouse click on the folder.
Select OK.
Select Next.
Select Browse
and navigate to find the right or target folder for the folder
pair.
Enter a name for your folder pair. The name can be up to 255 characters long,
and must be different from your other folder pair names. Names are not case
sensitive and leading and trailing spaces are ignored. SyncToy will validate
the name, and if the name typed is valid, the Finish button will be
enabled.
If the name typed is not valid, the Finish button will be greyed out. Change
the name until the Finish button is enabled to insure that the name is unique
and valid.
Select Finish.
SyncToy will display the folder pair, the action, and the selected options. The
named folder pair will appear in the left menu and is available to select and
preview or run at any time. At this point, you can:
Run SyncToy to synchronize the two folders in your folder pair,
Preview a SyncToy run to see what operations would take place during the
run,
Create another folder pair, and/or
Delete the folder pair you just created.
To preview and then run the folder pair you just created:
Select Preview to see a preview of files and operations.
A progress bar will appear during preview to show its progress.
To prevent SyncToy from performing any of the operations on the files listed,
unselect the box(es) in the Active column.
Run the action on the folder pair, or Close the
preview screen.
Be sure to confirm the results in preview prior to running SyncToy. There is no
undo feature once SyncToy has run on the files (though any files that SyncToy
deleted will be in the Recycle Bin and can be restored normally).
After Close,select Run. It
is also possible to select Delete Folder Pair to delete the
folder pair, or to select Create New Folder Pair
to create another folder pair.
